Being a woman of a certain age, having a full time job, an extended family to look after, the occasional grumpiness is inevitably part of my life. When thinking of my blog name I was reminded of the old Nursery rhyme Crosspatch:-
“Crosspatch, draw the latch, sit by the fire and spin.
Take a cup and drink it up, and call the neighbours in.”
I like the idea of a grumpy woman locking herself away with her craft until she has regained her peace and equanimity, and then inviting in her neighbours to share a cup of tea and a chat.
My craft is my soul food, it’s the place I go when I need some peace, and my blog is my way of “inviting the neighbours in” to share what I’m doing.
Who is Crosspatch?
Hi I’m Alison and I’ve been sewing most of my life, I joined my patchwork group nearly 30 years ago now and have been quilting off and on ever since, as life’s vicissitudes have allowed.
Having a full time job, family to care for, both elders and youngsters, and a house to run, means I have less time now for craft than I have ever had. My blog came about as a push to myself to rediscover the craft I love and to find a reason to make time for it.
I find it’s easy to put myself to the back of the queue when it comes to apportioning time in the day, and it’s easy then for “pastimes” to be way further down the list of priorities still. My Blog has given me a reason to think and plan and even buy fabric, for projects which will one day be made, and become another blog post.
In the mean time and because a quilter isn’t all that I am, or all that I do, my blog also gives a flavour of who I am and what I get up to when not at work, or doing the laundry .
